Event Recap: #BBCxDOPE at DOPE Fairfax

The first leg of the bi-coastal #BBCxDOPE release was held this weekend at DOPE Fairfax. We debuted the flagship-exclusive collection on June 5 and invited members of the Fairfax community to see the collaboration in person alongside members of the “DOPE” cast. The release was followed by a private screening of “DOPE” at the London Hotel in West Hollywood.

The second leg of the #BBCxDOPE release will be held on June 12 at the Billionaire Boys Club NYC flagship.

See the DOPE Film 2 weeks before the Premiere

Want to see Dope The Movie 2 weeks before it releases? Every customer that purchases the Billionaire Boys Club x DOPE x Dope the Movie collaboration at our Flaghship boutique on Friday will be entered into a raffle to win two VIP tickets to an advance screening of the film that night. Billionaire Boys Club x DOPE x Dope The Movie

Billionaire Boys Club and DOPE are proud to announce a collaboration celebrating the upcoming release of critical hit and Sundance Film Festival favorite “DOPE.” The collaboration, which consists of a tee, a women’s tank, and a sticker pack, will be released exclusively at the DOPE and Billionaire Boys Club flagship stores in limited quantities prior to the release of the “DOPE” film nationwide on June 19th.

The “DOPE” film, which triggered one of the biggest Sundance bidding wars in recent history, puts a spotlight on both streetwear and hip-hop culture while telling a modern coming-of-age story set in Inglewood. The film also features A$AP Rocky’s acting debut and four original songs from Pharrell Williams, who served as an executive producer on the film alongside Sean “Diddy” Combs.

“90’s street fashion and hip hop culture brought rise to the idea of the streetwear brand,” says Rick Famuyiwa, writer and director of “DOPE.” “The main characters in DOPE are obsessed with this history and their energy informs every aspect of their personal style and thus informed the style of the film. So it made perfect sense to collaborate with two great streetwear brands in DOPE and Billionaire Boys Club whose existence is an extension of a sub culture that found it’s voice in the 90’s.”

The collection will be released at DOPE Fairfax on June 5th with a private screening of the film to follow. Customers who purchase the collection on June 5th will be entered into a raffle for exclusive tickets to the private screening that evening.

On June 12th, the collection will be released at the Billionaire Boys Club flagship in New York alongside a meet-and-greet featuring members of the cast.

The annual tradition continues as we drop our 2015 420 capsule collection titled “Cali Grown.”

The tee features a kaleidoscope leaf print on a 100% cotton tee, while the snapback features an interesting combination of tonal 2D leaf embroidery with contrasting 3D DOPE embroidery. Keeping with the theme, the collection is truly OG, produced domestically in Los Angeles, California.

SPRING 2015 DROP 2: Most Kings Get Their Heads Cut Off

For Spring ’15 Drop 2, DOPE was inspired by the rise of the luminary. From the reign of the ruling elite to the daily come up of the common man, the desire to be the best drives all paths to greatness. DOPE looked towards young greats across all culture to create graphics and silhouettes inspired by fine art, cult film, 90’s hip-hop, and medieval nobility. Collections like DOPE BOYZ and Affiliated represent the rise to greatness while the Beheaded, Guillotine, and Shattered tees illustrate the fall that historically comes next.

Continung the theme of expansion, DOPE’s growth in the knit category plays a significant role in this delivery with the release of new silhouettes like the lightweight knit drug rug and the introduction of new knits to familiar pieces such as the short sleeve hooded pullover and baseball jersey. The collection is tied together with a fresh spring color palette that brings contrast to the black and white elements of the release.

French Terry Hooded Poncho

The second release in our DOPE R&D series, the 100% Cotton French Terry Hooded Poncho features bottom panel detailing with a hidden kangaroo pocket and a woven DOPE label. Intended to be a statement piece, the poncho can be worn with simple black denim and a black tee to complete the look. The poncho comes in two sizes: S/M and L/XL.

Zero FX Stealthfighters at DOPE Fairfax

We released Spring ’15 Drop 1 at DOPE Fairfax on Thursday along with a new buildout featuring Zero FX Stealthfighter electric motorcycles. These completely electric bikes, provided by our friends at Hollywood Electrics, go from 0-60 in 4 seconds, are styled completely in matte black, and feature both on and off-road capabilities. These bikes are the definition of Not To Be Fucked With.

Spring 2015 Drop 1: NTBFW

Punk wasn’t created, it evolved. As creatives became tired of the status quo, they began to modify familiar works to build an entirely new medium of expression. With this mentality in mind, DOPE has delivered a line that defies convention and looks towards the evolution of streetwear.

For Spring, DOPE brought new fabrics to traditional silhouettes along with modified sleeves, cutoffs, and unfinished edges. Graphics inspired by iconic groups, phrases, and imagery that embody the rebellious spirit bring a new context to plaids and prints familiar to the line. Red elements round out the collection by bringing a strong contrast to a monochromatic color palette.

This Spring, DOPE Is Not To Be Fucked With.

Always Inspired: DOPE at Art Basel 2014

Always Inspired was DOPE’s first Art Basel project bringing together trap music innovator Heroes x Villains, member of the growing “new Atlanta” rap movement Key!, and Australian exhibiting artist Jirat to examine the decontextualization of inspiration in their varying mediums. Whether it is through HxV’s fusion of electronic music and hip-hop, Key!’s punk-rock mentality, or the juxtaposition of heavy metal and rap elements in Jirat’s exhibits, each artist focuses on the creation of an entirely new form of art that is free from the bounds of genre and context.

For Always Inspired, Jirat created a custom DOPE jacket that was displayed at Basel Castle first as an exhibition and ultimately as a live performance piece worn on stage by HxV during his set with Key!. The resulting performance was the culmination of Always Inspired, fusing music, art, and fashion into one collaborative experience. See the entire project below:
